This is a day of uncertainty. COVID-19 pandemic has altered out way of living significantly. The end of the pandemic seems far away and then add Antifa’s unrestrained anarchy and life can be pretty scary. The economy is suffering because of all the shutdowns. People are struggling to make ends meet.
It’s all new and leaders are trying to figure out how to manage it in a safe way. They will make mistakes and hopefully correct their course quickly to get back on course.
Socialist governors and mayors where the riots continue are promoting anarchy by allowing it to continue. This too can be scary knowing that the local leadership is promoting the violence.
In Proverbs 3:25 Solomon tells us this. “Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught.” Proverbs 3:25-26 NKJV
We are in a situation where there seems to be sudden terror. We are facing an unknown virus that is nothing more than the flu for some but for some it has and is a very serious and threating illness.
As believers we can put our trust in God. We are promised that the Lord will be our confidence. He will keep our feet from getting caught.
Does that mean we can throw caution to the wind and not use the safety precautions available to us? Wisdom would tell us to be cautious but not fearful. Wearing face masks or shields is inconvenient but when I am around other people, especially those I don’t know, I will wear the mask.
There is so much controvery regarding the effectiveness of masks that it is hard to know what is truth. Do they protect me or do they protect the people around me from what I may be unwittingly carrying? Who really knows. There hasn’t been enough time to do effective studies. There are many professional opionions that differ. I wear the mask not so much to protect myself but to show others I am trying to protect them. Ultimately, it is God who is protecting us.
I have acquaintances who have gotten COVID-19 and so far all have survived the ordeal. One of our friends is in a memory care facility and is 94 years old. She stayed in bed and slept a lot for a couple weeks but is back to normal now.
Another acquaitance traveled to Albania and caught the virus. He was deathly ill for almost two weeks but has survived. Two other friends caught the virus in early March and survived the ordeal. She had minor symptoms but he has asthma and even though he is over the virus he still is dealing with continued breathing problems agrravated by the virus.
Those of us over 70 are more vulnerable and at risk. We need to be cautious but do we need to be fearful of this terror? Do not be fearful of the sudden terror. God is in control and we need to trust Him. Be cautious and take safety seriously but trust Him to protect us.
Lord, You are our confidence. You told us You would keep our feet from being caught. You are our protector and guide. Thank you for protecting us. Give us wisdom to do the right thing. Amen.
